Mission Statement & Purpose
Great Lakes Teacher Training is a joint project of three established Waldorf schools in the Milwaukee area: Urban Waldorf, Tamarack Community School, and Prairie Hill Waldorf School. This teacher training was intended to help meet the needs caused by the shortage of trained teachers in Waldorf education.

The training integrates studies in Waldorf pedagogy and child development with philosophical foundation studies in Anthroposophy. Active, hands-on work in artistic areas supports the inner-deepening growth of self-knowledge and schooling of perception essential for the Waldorf teacher.

Graduate credits are now offered through Mount Mary College. It is a three year program leading to a Masters of Education and a Waldorf Teaching Certificate (through Mt. Mary) or just a Waldorf Teaching Certificate, only, through Mt. Mary. The courses may also be taken for undergraduate credits or audited to receive a Waldorf Teaching Certificate through Great Lakes Teacher Training.

Great Lakes Teacher Training is an (AWSNA) Association of Waldorf Schools of North America "Developing Institute", offering a 3 year, 30 credit part time Waldorf Teaching Certification.

Mount Mary Masters in Education Program (37 cr. hrs.)
Through a combination of 3 summer intensives, 3 fall term evening courses, 1 spring term evening course and 2 spring term independent study courses candidates can complete the sequence of courses required for a Masters in Education with a Waldorf Teaching Certification. (30 cr. Waldorf Teacher Training courses and 7 cr. mainstream education courses).

Scholarships
There are scholarship funds available, through a generous grant from the Helen Bader Foundation, for employees of the Urban Waldorf School in Milwaukee. Contact Michael Imes for information and application materials.

Great Lakes Teacher Training students now qualify for scholarships through the Association of Waldorf Schools in America (AWSNA) Loan-to-Grant Program after they have completed their first year of training.
